From the Neo-Soul movement to the Jazz-Funk bands coming out of Australian cities and regional areas alike, Australia has got Soul.

In the wake of the recent cancellation of Soulfest, and the many disappointed fans that were left with no soul place to go, we thought we’d put together a list of some of the talent coming from our own shores.

Soulfest 2015 have cancelled!

Soulfest promoter's announced today that the 2015 Soulfest will be cancelled due to poor ticket sales, This announcement comes only 2 weeks before the vent, and the punters aren't happy!

Paul Kelly's Merri Soul Sessions

Australian Lovers of Soul Music be informed! Paul Kelly, Australia's much loved singer songwriter, has put together a delightful tour and album of the " Merri Soul Sessions". Paul is accompanied by Clairy Browne, Dan Sultan, Kira Puru and Vika & Linda Bull in a spectacular Soul Revue. Opening the night will be Hiatus Kaiyote.

2014 NCEIA Dolphin Award Winners

We attended the 25th NCEIA Dolphin Awards Last night, and their were some fantastic Australian Artists in the line up. On the judges panel were:

• Paul Pilsneniks (studios 301)
• Mark Gable (Choirboys)
• Alex Smith (Moving Pictures)
• Ciaran Gribbin (INXS)
• Marcus Schintler (Weddings Parties Anything)

• Murray Burnes (Mi-Sex)

Noteworthy were the winners of Urban/Hip-Hop/Funk and Jazz categories Teddy Lewis King and Kellie Knight and the Daze

This years ARIA awards, at the STAR, saw Chet Faker and Sia take out multiple awards, including "Album of the year" Sia and "Best Male Artist" Chet Faker.

It's a Jessica Mauboy and Chet Faker kinda year at the Aria Awards - but what's the Urban/Soul/funk category doing?

Well strictly, there is no category for Soul or Funk music in the Australian Recording Industry Associations list! Here are our Australian best for the category "Urban"

The first annual Neo-Soul, Hip-Hop and Jazz festival of Australia, Soulfest, kicked off this October with an astounding international line-up and a flurry of support from Australian punters. The Soulfest crew were fantastic at marketing and pulling off an almost unbelievalbe line-up, though when it came to the festival days themselves, there were a few major hitches, leaving some fans quite disgruntled. Overall, for a first time, it was a fantastic experience...for those who live in Australia, we are often starved of the celebration of this genre of music on Australian Shores. So thank you Soulfest! In an article released by ABC earlier this year, Soulfest promoter John Denison says about the Australian Artists and Soulfest...

"These artists have been trickling out of us for years in an underground way," says Denison. "So our legacy will be giving them a voice. It's their festival as much as it is ours, because they've developed the market for us in a grassroots way here."

Not so at yesterday's first annual neo-soul, hip hop and jazz festival in Melbourne.

Yesterday morning, Soulfest released a statement on facebook stating that "Due to a combination of operational and logistical issues - the local stage will not be operating today. All local artists will not be appearing. We apologize to our local artists and the punters for this inconvenience."

Due to technical issues the soulfest organisers have pulled all the Australian Artists from the line up today.  Here is a list of the Australian Artists that were too play today.... get behind them, like their pages, comment on their timeslines and let them know that Aussies want to hear Australian content!

Best Soul, Funk, R'n'B and Gospel Album nominees announced yesterday for Victoria Genre Awards

According to the Age the below artists albums are the top 5 artists in the Australian Soul, Funk, RnB and Gospel category

SBTRKT is coming to Australia for a couple of tour dates. SBTRKT is Aaron Jerome, a producer based in London, who performs behind a mask everytime he plays. The name of his project was created without vowels and the intention was to remain anonymous and not be associated with any one person.
