Close date of festival

Sunday, 01 March 2015
Originally started by passionate members in the community as an outlet to nurture local music way back in 1992, Apollo Bay Music Festival has grown into the sought after multi genre event for all ages it is today. Run as a not-for-profit incorporated body and unashamedly independent, the Festival has a knack of picking the best new bands and mixing them in with older.. well.. more established artists.

You can dance (or darnce), sing, bring a picnic rug and chairs, and as many kids 15 and under you can fit legally in the vehicle of your choice. There is lots of food, and local beverages available, and the beach is only a stones throw away (although stone throwing is not permitted).

Lots of big bands have played over the years. Too many to mention in fact, but the real gems are the undiscovered ones that you looked at on the program and said “I haven’t heard of any of these!” And then you danced (or darnced) along and followed them obsessively for the following year. We have lots like that…

TIckets are advertised poorly so that most of our patrons hear about us from word of mouth only. This means we get all your friends to come and new friends are only a short conversation away.
We have a skatepark right next door and lots of space on the beach which is provided for free to those who appreciate sand and fresh air.

Speaking of beaches…. Half the fun of Apollo Bay is getting there. There is no easy way, which is why it has remained a gem of a place with the Otways at its back and the Great Ocean Road and subsequent Ocean to its front. It has one of the best beginner Surf breaks in the state and is close to some more gnarly ones. It’s cafes have great food and coffee and its Bakery is something else. Leaving is even harder!

ABMF 2014 - Crowd
The Festival is held on the last weekend of Summer each year. The date has moved about a bit over the last 23 years and the format is always evolving but that’s Apollo Bay and we reckon February is the best time for everything festive and enjoying the warmth in the water.

If you’ve read this far you are technically committed so thank you and see you soon!

Artists who have performed at the Apollo Bay Music Festival over the years include: The John Butler Trio, Tiddas, Kasey Chambers, Stonefield, You Am I, Everlast (US), Bob Brozman, Sandi Thom, The Whitlams, Eddi Reader, Sietta, Robyn Hitchock with REM’s Peter Buck, The Crooked Fiddle Band, Scott McAughey & Bill Rieflin, Tex Perkins, Dallas Crane, The Australian Art Orchestra, The Beards, Joe Camileri, Hiatus Kaiyote, Kate Miller-Heidke, The Whitlams, Lior, Turin Brakes (UK), Nick Barker & the Reptiles, Vince Jones, My Left Boot, Jimmy Little, Skunkhour, Karma County, The Basics, Flacco & The Sandman and The Choir of Hard Knocks… just to name an eclectic few….and many..many more!
